NOVAFOODIES SHIPS DIGITAL TRACEABILITY KITS FOR PILOT CASES IN ITALY AND GREECE

A New Level of Transparency for European Consumers
We are pleased to announce that the NOVAFOODIES project is entering the experimental phase of digital traceability at its pilot sites: Aqua de Ma – University of Genoa (Italy) and Kefalonia Fisheries (Greece). Over the next 12 months, these two leading aquaculture producers will test innovative technologies developed within the project to enhance transparency and strengthen consumer trust in seafood products.
As part of this phase, both partners have received traceability kits, designed to promote voluntary traceability of their products. These kits, provided under WP6 – IT tools development and monitoring for traceability and enhanced trust, led by ITENE, with GO INFOTEAM support, include cutting-edge tools to ensure full supply chain transparency:
- Informational posters to raise consumer awareness at points of sale;
- IoT systems to monitor key parameters of the production chain;
- RFID technology and QR code labels for product traceability;
- Novafoodies Marketplace software to help producers manage traceability data;
- Novafoodies Mobile App, enabling consumers to access detailed product information.
This phase, led by GO INFOTEAM, marks a crucial step toward a more transparent, safe, and sustainable aquaculture industry.
The implementation of digital traceability will allow consumers to access reliable information about the origin and quality of seafood products. By adhering to high standards of quality and certification, producers can ensure a controlled and verifiable supply chain, supported by Blockchain technology.
By simply scanning the QR code on product labels, consumers will be able to view real-time detailed information about the fish they purchase. This initiative aims to increase awareness and consumer confidence in European aquaculture products.
We are excited to see how our collective efforts will improve transparency and the perception of quality seafood products across Europe.
