Recent participation by CTAQUA and KEFISH in major aquaculture and algae-focused events highlights NOVAFOODIES visibility!

The NOVAFOODIES project continues to gain visibility across Europe’s leading platforms for sustainable aquaculture and food innovation, thanks to the active engagement of its partners in high-profile events.

Last week, the NOVAFOODIES partner CTAQUA proudly represented the project at Aquaculture Europe 2025, held in Valencia from 22 to 25 September. With over 3,000 participants, the congress provided a dynamic setting to share research and foster collaboration in the aquaculture sector. At the CTAQUA stand, attendees were introduced to NOVAFOODIES through dedicated promotional materials, including roll-up and brochure. A key moment was the oral presentation by Mr. Erik Malta, titled “Potential of the green seaweed Codium for human food production: from line seeding to biomass processing”. Co-authored with ANFACO (Spain) and the University of Genoa (Italy), the presentation drew a nearly full room—highlighting the growing interest in micro- and macroalgae as sustainable food sources and valuable biomass resources.

Another NOVAFOODIES partner, KEFISH, partecipated in  Aquaculture Europe 2025 (#EAS 2025) in Valencia, presenting a poster titled “Using marine finfish hatchery effluent to grow Ulva Sp. in a pilot land-based IMTA schema”. This innovative approach highlights the potential of integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) systems to enhance sustainability by repurposing nutrient-rich effluents for algae cultivation.

In addition, KEFISH participated in another important event, the SEAWHEAT COST Final Conference, held in Bremerhaven, Germany, from 2nd to 4th September 2025. The conference focused on Ulva: Tomorrow’s “Wheat of the Sea”, and brought together leading experts in algae research and mariculture. KEFISH contributed with poster presentations, reinforcing the project’s commitment to advancing sustainable algae-based food systems.

Through these participations, NOVAFOODIES continues to strengthen its role in shaping the future of sustainable food systems, promoting algae as a promising resource for nutrition and environmental resilience.

Stay tuned for more updates from our partners across Europe!
