RAS System for the NOVAFOODIES Projekt is functioning at full capacity, within Task 3.1 – lead by AWI.

All systems ago! – the large-scale recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) for Ulva cultivation is now in full swing and operating at full capacity. All 6 tanks are filled with Ulva spp. which will be harvested, processed and produced into packaging material. The system was specially designed and constructed to improve land-based Ulva cultivation within the NOVAFOODIES project.

Figure 1Large-scale RAS system for Ulva cultivation. The system consists of 6 700-Liter tanks, a sump tank, a protein skimmer, UV-disinfection, aeration and cooling systems. The artificial seawater is continuously recirculated and treated to improve sustainability. Two species are cultivated in the system: U. lacinulata and Ulva sp.
