IMTA provides an innovative, ecologically balanced, circular, and economically viable solution for sustainable aquaculture while addressing environmental challenges and supporting economic growth and food security.
It involves farming multiple species from different trophic levels (e.g. algae/plants, carnivores, herbivores, etc.) in the same system. It creates a balanced ecosystem where waste produced by one species becomes a resource for another, rendering numerous ecological, economic, and social benefits.
