GREAT SUCCESS IN UPSCALING MACROALGAE CULTIVATION
The Cyprus University of Technology team are thrilled to share that Task 3.4 – Upscaling Macroalgae Cultivation in Liquid Wastes – is moving forward with great success!
Led by Dr. Olympia Nisiforou and Panelitsa Peteinou, the team of Cyprus University of Technology has been working diligently to sample and characterize various waste streams, optimizing the cultivation of seaweed in these wastewaters. By fine-tuning key factors like temperature, salinity, irradiance, and nutrients, we’re pushing the boundaries of sustainable cultivation.
A pilot plant has now been constructed at the Port of Limassol, and we’re hard at work optimizing its operation. This exciting step brings us closer to bridging the gap between pollution and circularity, transforming waste and algal biomass into a resource and closing the loop for a more sustainable future.
